Candidate filing is sailing along with lots of states now having completed candidate filings and others with a full slate of Democratic House candidate long before filings close.

Finally due praise to those states where we have a full slate of house candidates – Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennesee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.
It is also interesting to note that we have only one race left to fill in New York and Wisconsin. Thats 40 states with a full slate, and 2 states with one race to fill!
There are also 5 states where filing has closed where we do not have a full slate: Arkansas, Alabama, California, Kentucky and of course Texas. Lets hope the last 3 Louisiana, Michigan and Oklahoma fill out.
Please note that in some races others at the racetracker site have confirmed candidates that I haven’t. This is because to satisfy me a confirmed candidate has either filed with the FEC, The Sec of State or has an active campaign website, or even if they come and blog and say yep I am running. Others are not so rigorous.
It is also great to see candidates in AZ-06, CA-42, FL-12, LA-06, MS-03, VA-04, VA-06 and WI-06; 8 of 10 districts we did not contest in 2006! The other 2, TX-11 and AL-06, will again go uncontested by Team Blue in 2008.
With 11 uncontested Republicans we will not reach our great 2006 effort of 425 races filled but we will do really well nonetheless.

Epic/MRA (one of the bigger local pollsters in Michigan) actually polled the race in MI-10. They did have two names, but (my apologies) I don’t remember either one. Just wanted to share the good news that apparently there are some candidates for Candice Miller.
(Sadly, the poll had them getting blasted)
Gil Pinac is not running. The Daily Kingfisher quotes Pinac in an April 15 issue of the Lafayette Independent as saying he will not make the race. Another candidate, Democratic state senator Don Cravins, Jr. is apparentl;y in but will be running as an independent to take advantage of all the Obama voters who will be out there during the fall. Oddly, both Cravins and his father have been urged to run as the Democratic candidate.
Since the Michigan deadline is May 13 and the state;s website is very good at updating, we will have a better picture shortly. The statewide blog, Michgan Liberal, is currently more interested in what’s going on at the state rather than the federal level so it is significantly less helpfulk than it was two years ago. In 2006 all Michigan seats were contested. Currently four districts have Democrats who have filed to run.
Do you know if Vern Ehlers (R) has filed yet for MI-03? I remember there was some speculation last election that he might retire, and so I’m wondering if he might have some sort of surprise, last-minute announcement.
Either way, 3rd District Democrats need to get their act together. The filing deadline is May 13.
Jesus f***in’ Christ! Will someone please rid my parents of Peter King? It shames me to see the district where I grew up (plenty of social liberals) go uncontested.
I am not sure that Gilda’s going to run in the fall. I think this was her one shot at it. I’ll let you know.
Robert Denison filed in Michigan 10 late on May 12. We filled this one with a day to spare. I’m watching this closely. Neither of the Levins, Carl (Senate) or Sander (House) has filed although there is no indication they will not file. MI-3, MI-6, MI-7, MI-8, and MI-12 still needed. Michigan Senate needed. That sucker requires 15,000 signatures so it is Levin or no one, I guess.
